Forty-six young Alaminians were awarded city scholarships on October 22, 2007 during the flag ceremony held at the Alaminos City Hall. The new scholars, together with their proud parents and guardians, received their certificates from City Mayor Hernani A. Braganza and City Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Renato Viray, with smiles on their faces.
Following the brief launching of "Promo sa Radyo" by the City Information Office, was a short song number by one of the scholars, Ruperto Boton Jr. and inspiring messages from Dr. Viray and City Mayor Braganza, which boosted the scholars'' resolve to make the most of the opportunity and the gift given to them that day.
The scholars, expressed their gratitude through the messages given by Danica Anna Padilla, a B.S.Architecture student of UP Diliman, and Mark Denver Rabanal, a B.S. Elementary Education of PSU Bayambang. Likewise, one of the parents, Mrs. Arileen Padilla also offered a heartfelt thank you message.
After the awarding of certificates, the scholars proceeded to the orientation for the important guidelines they must understand about the scholarship. They were directed to establish an account at Land Bank, and also received their initial financial assistance for the month of September.
Late last June, the city already awarded city scholarships to 29 deserving students.Sadly, the city''s budget, at that time, did not permit the accommodation of the students ranked 30 to 79 who were also eager to pursue their college education. This was finally answered this month by City School Board Resolution # 1 (Series of 2007), granting 25% level Scholarships to these 46 pre-qualified students, with a sufficient budget that would provide their financial assistance of 19,650 per year or 1,965 pesos per month.
