Another Alaminian student shone bright in a national competition.
Ella Monique A. Viray, a fourth year student of the Alaminos City National High School (ACNHS), bagged the second place in the Best Business Idea Competition of the Teen NeGosyo University held at Teachers’ Camp, Baguio City from July 26-31, 2009.
Viray with her co-members from other divisions had their business named “PICASIO”, a restaurant that will serve the best and healthy foods to its consumer at a cheaper price.
The business is named after its specialty, the PICAdillong SIOmai, a recipe created by Viray.
This recipe, with malunggay leaves as its main ingredient, also won first place during the Nutrition Month Celebration hosted by their school.
Incidentally, malunggay leaves is also one of the chief ingredients of the hot lunch being served three times to the almost 20, 000 school children in the city under the Braganza administration’s City Expanded Feeding Cum Livelihood Assistance Program.
The Best Business Idea Competition was a very tough one, described Mrs. Bella R. Villanos, education supervisor I for TLE.
It was learned that out of 40 groups joined, 20 were eliminated. The 20 chosen groups were further judged by a representative from the business world and from the Department of Trade and Industry.
“But she managed to survive the competition and amazingly land on the top three,” said Villanos of the youngest daughter of Dr. Arturo Viray, education supervisor I for MAPEH and Mrs. Marife Viray, Planning Officer III, both working at the Alaminos City Division.
“Ella’s group came up with the unique ways of presenting their idea using the available resources and I believed that wowed the judges.”
Viray said she have learned a lot from the topnotch facilitators, speakers and entrepreneurs because the discussions and presentations were made more interactive, exciting and enjoyable.
“This training really made us put into actions the lessons we’ve learned during the plenary and break-outs sessions, as well other forums, entrepreneurial showcases, and competitions,” she disclosed.
“It also honed our entrepreneurial skills and motivates us to give our best in everything we do.”
Viray’s participation in this prestigious competition was again made possible through the all-out-support of Mayor Hernani A. Braganza.
Braganza, upon learning the news, extended her warmest congratulations and utmost gratitude to the young lass as well as the Alaminos City Division headed by Dr. Oscar C. Tadeo, the OIC school superintendent and ACNHS principal-Dr. Gloria N. Reinoso, for yet another great honor for the city.
He added, “Ella’s achievement as well as those remarkable feats that have been reaped by our students for the past five years, has inspired us (in the city government) even more continue to provide our students the best education and all the support they deserve.”
“With our various programs for our youth, we would like the future leaders of our city to earn diploma but more importantly get employed to be of great help to their family, community and the nation in general and have a better and brighter future ahead of them.”
Also known as 4th Youth Entrepreneurship and Cooperativism in School (YECS) Training and Conference Teen NeGOsyo University, was participated by more than 1,400 high school students and educators all over the country.
The five-day entrepreneurship summit which is guided by the theme: “We’re in Business (How to Go Negosyo)” aims to guide and educate the youth as they begin to responsibly engage in entrepreneurial activities and endeavors.
The YECS training on Go Negosyo advocacy has been geared towards the youth, or even those who are still young at heart.
