Disabled children receive gifts from PSU and Alaminos LGU
Date: October 9, 2009

Just a glimpse of what Pangasinan State University (PSU) has to offer to the city in the future.

Yesterday, top officials of said university in partnership with the city government handed gift packs and used clothes to city’s person with disabilities (PWD) in Barangay Alos here.

This gift giving project was held at the barangay auditorium, just few blocks away from the Stimulation and Therapeutic Activity Center (STAC) established by the city few months ago to cater to the needs of children with disabilities (CWDs) in the city.

Dr. Victoriano C. Estira, PSU president, together with Dr. Lydia C. Beduhan, VP for Planning and Administration, city administrator Wilmer Panabang, and city social welfare and development officer Imelda Ruiz, led the distribution of gifts to the more than 250 disabled persons.

Estira said the initiative is part of their commitment to the city government’s thrust of providing full support to the development of the total well-beingof PWDs in the city.

He disclosed that PSU Alaminos Campus will soon help integrate the CWDs into the mainstream of society by enrolling them in special education programs.

“This is just the beginning of our programs and projects for our young Alaminians with disabilities,” stressed the university president.

“We would like to show and for you to feel that PSU and Alaminos City is now one big, happy family, hence, this outreach program for our disabled persons which we intend to institutionalize.”

Panabang, on his part, thank Dr. Estira and the PSU administration for coming out with this humanitarian endeavor.

Today, we are very happy to know that PSU is also minding on the general welfare of the deprived sectors of our society that include our disabled children,” he said.

Our city is indeed very lucky to have PSU as our long-term partner in molding our youth to become better leaders and responsible citizens as well as in helping shape the future of Alaminos.

Panabang pointed out that the administration of Mayor Hernani A. Braganza worked so hard for the city to finally have a state university in order to provide affordable and quality education to the city’s youth.

The first ever university campus is expected to rise early next year as the memorandum of agreement has already been signed last month.

PSU Alaminos City Campus, which will be very accessible not just to Alaminians but students from other towns in western Pangasinan and northern Zambales, will be offering more on medical courses.

Under the MOA, the city will provide the needed funds to construct buildings and the whole campus.

In return, Alaminos government will receive 30% of the total tuition fees collected from the students.

Pundits in the province and even city residents say that the establishment of PSU Campus at the heart of the district is not just a boon to the city but is also regarded as one of the ultimate gifts of the Braganza administration to the city’s youth.(CIO)
