Alaminos cited for strong cooperative movement
Date:

The Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) has recognized Alaminos City government’s valuable contributions in advancing the spirit of cooperativism in the province.
The Special Cooperative Award was given to the city during the Regional Cooperative Month Celebration held at the Star Plaza Hotel in Dagupan City last October 30, 2009.
The said occasion, with the theme “Bagong Batas, Bagong Sigla sa Kooperatiba”, was attended by the different cooperatives in the Ilocos Region.
Annabelle Hebron, city cooperative officer-designate accepted the said award in behalf of Mayor Hernani A. Braganza and the city government.
She also received the certificate of recognition for the newly organized Alaminos City Cooperative Development Council (ACCDC).
Other awardees from the city of Alaminos during the event are the MAAWI-ALOS Farmers Cooperative, Alaminos Market Vendors Cooperatives, Alaminos Credit Cooperative Incorporated and the Abundance Unlimited Cooperative for being millionaire and multi-millionaire cooperatives.
The city bagged the award for being the most supportive partner in cooperative development and for sharing resources for the growth, strengthening and advancement of cooperatives in the province.
On the other hand, ACCDC was cited for its commitment to support and strengthen the Cooperative Development Council.
ACCDC has made the CDC a mechanism for collaboration, consultation and coordination in the implementation of various programs and projects implemented by all government branches, instrumentalities, subdivisions, and agencies for the cooperatives.
Hebron said city government has been bestowed with said award for being instrumental in the strengthening of different cooperatives in the city.
During his first term as chief executive of the city, Braganza urged the city’s different sectors which includes farmers, fisher folks, vendors and women to organize and to form the now known as the Alaminos City Integrated Multi-Purpose Cooperative (IMPUC-Alaminos), partner of the city government in the implementation of its AGRI-Volution Program.
Likewise, Mayor Nani believes that strong women build a strong community and this was proven when the city women’s sector has been mobilized to build the Kilusan ng mga Kababaihan tungo sa Kaunlaran (KKK) Multi-Purpose Cooperative.
Not only that the hardworking mayor provided major assistance to the first and biggest women’s cooperative here but also empowered its members particularly the mothers through various livelihood projects initiated by the city government.
With the full support of the Mayor Braganza, the once cash strapped City of Hundred Islands Employees Multi-Purpose Cooperative (CHIEMPCO) is now stronger and one of the biggest earning employees cooperative in Northern Luzon.
Hebron said the awards are testament to the Braganza administration’s commitment to serve the best interest of every sector in the city particularly the womens’ group, the farmers, fisherfolk and employees.
“Our beloved mayor firmly believed that the success of these small cooperatives would mean an improved standard of living of the people and also contributes to a better local economy,” said Hebron.
Braganza once said that “the people’s money must circulate and spent within in the city.”
Now, with a strong cooperative movement here, the income of Alaminians will likely wind up in the pockets of the farmers, small entrepreneurs and the buying public and the coffers of the cooperatives. (CIO)
