ACNHS students shine anew in STEP regional finals

Fourteen students from Alaminos City National High School (ACNHS) reaped awards in the 2009 Student Technologists and Entrepreneurs of the Philippines (STEP) Regional Skills Development and Competition held in Mangaldan, Pangasinan from November 22-25.
Ella Monique Viray topped the Table Setting competition and helped her teammates Patricia Castelo, Louie Ray Villamor, and Kimbo Ras bagged the first prize in Business Planning.
On the other hand, Deorina Joy Ranches, Bea Charlene Villanos and Kendal Simon Garcia were declared first place in Step Bazaar contest. The tandem of Ranches and Villanos also took the top award in the Artistic Booth competition.
Other winners include Jelaica Regaspi, who ranked second over-all in Dish Gardening, Lynvie Bernardino took the 3rd place in Facial Make-up and Hair Styling, and the team of Joan Llamas, Armelyn Bielza, Ali Mangoang and Kimbo Ras got the third prize in Techno Quiz.
Mr. & Ms. STEP Alaminos City Division Jerome Jardiel and Venia Ilustrisimo also wowed the crowd with their charm, poise and wits. Ilustrisimo was adjudged as Miss STEP 1st runner-up while Jardiel was proclaimed Mr. STEP second runner-up. He also took the best in summer wear award.
Meanwhile, Donitz Joi Ballesta Maliga Elementary School prevented a near shut out in the elementary level as she claimed the first place in Flower Arrangement. Just recently, Mayor Hernani A. Braganza received the winners of the regional STEP when they paid a courtesy call at his office.
Headed by Mrs. Bella Villanos, Education Supervisor I for TLE/EPP, the students along with their coaches and took the opportunity to thank Mayor Braganza for his continued support to the city’s young technologists and entrepreneurs.
On his part, the hardworking city mayor likewise extended his utmost gratitude to the students and coaches for bringing another honor to the city.
“As your mayor and on behalf of our citymates, it is my pleasure to congratulate all of your for your remarkable feat,” he said.
“You continue to make us all proud. Keep it up and I wish you all good luck in the national finals,” added the ever-supportive and visionary mayor.
According to Villanos, the first placers in the regional finals both in the secondary and elementary level will compete in the National STEP Skills Competition in Camarines Sur National High School in Naga City from February 5-10, 2010. (CIO)
