Motorboat operators had fun at Aqua-Sports Fest
Date: June 1, 2010

To most the local and foreign tourists that frequent the city’s pride-the Hundred Islands National Park, summer is almost over.

But the city’s fisher folks and motorboat operators here thought otherwise.

Yesterday, many of them took part and enjoyed the Alaminos Aqua Sports Festival which was spearheaded by the city government of Alaminos in partnership with Cord Chemical Inc. and Cord Boat Builders Association (CBBA).

The whole day event, dubbed as “Huling Hirit sa Tag-araw”, is open to all Alaminians. It was held at the Lucap Bay area and witnessed by hundreds of residents and tourists alike.

It is divided into three race categories namely the Bancathon (motorboat with out-rigger and flatboat), Balsa (straight race) and Regata (sailboat).

The said aqua sports fest is held for the first time in the city to give the motor boat operators and fishermen the important break and simple incentive they deserve.

According to retired colonel Manuel Credo, city’s consultant on Coastal Resource Management, the aqua sports fest was a post celebration of the Pistay Dayat which is being held every first day of May.

Credo, who ably represented Mayor Hernani A. Braganza during the opening program, noted that the event reminds the motor boat operators and owners of their responsibility to ensure the safety of their passengers, the efficiency of their engines in order to prevent hassles while at sea and at the same time help save the marine environment.

Credo thanked the Cord Chemicals Inc., this year’s major sponsor, even as he asked the company’s continued support to the city’s program in the future.

“It is also one way of thanking our friends from the fishery and motorboat operators sector for their valuable contributions in helping boost the city’s booming tourism industry,” added city councilor Earl James C. Aquino, SP committee chair on Agriculture.

“This (event) will likewise strengthen the bond that binds each member of our fishery and tourism sector and for them to continue to mind on the welfare of the tourists and the promotion of the city’s tourism,” added the re-elected alderman.

Winners of the said event received cash and consolation prizes courtesy of the city government and different products from the major sponsor, the Cord Chemicals Inc. (CIO)
