26 Alaminian students hired through SPES
Date:
June 4, 2010
Twenty six students were employed this summer vacation under the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES).
SPES is a yearly undertaking of the agency in coordination with the local government units that are willing to shoulder and share in the salary of student workers.
Public Employment Service Office (PESO) chief Nejemias Racho said that the city government of Alaminos headed by Mayor Hernani A. Braganza responded for this year’s SPES to provide some of the city’s students coming from poor families the opportunity to earn few dimes for their family this summer.
“This is the 6th straight year that our beloved chief executive had accommodated said program to likewise give the students the opportunity to work with the city government,” he added.
Work for this year’s SPES began last month for a 30-day employment period and will end today.
Under the cost sharing scheme, the city government shoulders 60 percent of the wages while the remaining 40 percent will be DOLE's counterpart.
The rate of summer jobbers in the city is P200 as certified by the city budget office.
To qualify in the SPES, students must not be less than 15 years old and not more than 25 years of age at the start of work.
Likewise, the student workers should not have failing marks and must have an average grade of 80 percent. Their parent’s annual income should not also exceed the annual regional per capita poverty threshold in the province. (CIO)
