Six thousand subsidized rice seeds available
Date:

Six thousand (6,000) bags of certified rice seeds are up for grabs this month as the city government has started releasing last week the rice seeds subsidy to the city’s farmers for this planting season.

City agriculturist Arceli Talania said available varieties of rice seeds include PSB RC 18, PSB RC 28, NSIC RC 122, 112, 134, 154, 146, 130, 194, 160.

Certified rice seeds are being sold at P 1,200 per bag (40 kilos) but with this seed subsidy program of the city government the farmers will only pay half of the price.

Talania disclosed that the farmers could avail of one (1) bag of certified rice seeds for every hectare of land until September of this year.

She added that the city’s farmers could get a maximum of 3 bags assuming that they are tilling three hectares land.

City administrator Wilmer Panabang said this is already the 6th consecutive year that the city government is implementing said program to lessen the cost of farm inputs being incurred by the farmers.

“This is the Braganza administration’s continuing assistance to the farmers in order for them to increase their yield,” he added.

City councilor Earl James Aquino added that the subsidy program is the city government’s way of saying thank you to the farmers for their major contributions in ensuring the city’s food security.

Based from the records of the city agriculture, the city agriculture office has distributed 1,666 bags inbred certified palay seeds to the city’s farmers last year.

The certified seeds were being supplied by the local seed growers in the city and in the province. (CIO)
