Barangays
A long, long time ago, there was a man living in a faraway valley where villagers are only few. On the other hand, there was this man whose name was “Bong” and lives in the thick forest.
Bong is a big, strong man. He resides in a cottage beside a narrow creek where he used to catch fish for food. There were no farmlands during those days and what can only be seen during those times were large trees and thick cogonlands that are good for pasture.
One day, while Bong was busy catching fish with a hook and line, there was a stranger that came close to him looking for a good place where he could build a cottage. His name is “Enteng.”
When Bong finished keeping his fishing hook, he invited Enteng to his cottage where they could get acquainted with each other. They shared experiences and talked with each other. Soon they became good friends. Enteng was half-mute and mutters often. Bong sometimes could not comprehend what he is talking about.
Bong oftentimes burst into laughs at Enteng’s manner of speech. Nonetheless, they built a cottage near Bong and did their work together. One day, Bong and Enteng were swimming along the narrow creek, and suddenly two crocodiles attacked them. Enteng immediately rushed out of the water, but Bong fought with the crocodiles fiercely. He did not manage to escape from the crocodile that were very huge and visibly hungry. Eventually, Enteng saw the water become ruddy and thought Bong was already dead.
Enteng cried for help to save Bong. Unfortunately, nobody heard his cry. Enteng run from the thick woodland to the grassland shouting “Balang Bong! Balang Bong!” This means “Bong was lost.”
From that time on, Bong was nowhere to be found. Through time “Balang Bong” came to be known as “Balangobong” now a Barangay on its own.
