Tradition and the modern age thinking blend well in
Alaminos City. Here, priceless customs, beliefs and
crafts are revered but are now being presented with
mixed contemporary and time-honored ways. The people
understand that the world is changing and to keep their
unique identity alive in the next generation, they have
to harmonize with it. Thus, their customary celebrations
are also instilled with this fusion of concepts and
practice, making it an effective culture educator, minus
the bore, and the fun factor amplified.
Moro–Moro / Zarzuela
This literary form is often present in different
festivals and barangay fiestas. Traditional musical
plays centers on the rich history or colorful origin of
the place, thus is usually set before or during Spanish
regime. Legends are sometimes given the stage,
reintroducing to the people a part of their heritage.

Passion of Christ
Senakulo is the most awaited spectacle during Lenten
season in Alaminos. The city mourns the Savior’s death
with a reenactment and a solemn parade. In this age,
tradition blends with modern art to commemorate Christ’s
sacrifice. Households near the church wait eagerly and
with a bit of scare, for the visit of acting Roman
soldiers with their menacingly painted masks and armors,

Flores de Mayo (Flowers of May)
The Cathedral and most homes echo with the traditional
praying of the Novena for nine days, in honor of the
Virgin Mary. Then, a festive Santacruzan follows, in
celebration of the Holy Cross. The loveliest ladies in
the city are selected to participate in the late
afternoon procession that often stretches into evening.
They wear elegantly designed and exquisitely embellished
gowns, portraying characters in the story of Queen
Elena’s search and eventual find of the Holy Cross. The
gowns are either themed or free styled, depending on the

Hundred Islands Festival
The most anticipated and largest crowd-drawer event in
Alaminos City. Lavish celebration marks the Hundred
Islands Festival. Exhilaration rides the atmosphere with
the string of athletic and challenging pursuits like sky
diving competition, skills Olympics or island adventure
race, inviting the thrill-seeking foreign and local
tourists. Sighs of awe and approval can be heard as the
best of aqua products and seafood cuisine enjoys center
stage. Restaurants often let out the latest and most
sumptuous menus during the festival. A trade fair also

City and Barangay Fiestas
Busy, festive and vibrant. This is Filipino fiesta. And
when its turn to celebrate comes around, Alaminos City
can be counted upon to do so with gusto. The weeklong
celebration (that usually starts on March 17) is often
buzzing with activity, with events and fairs decorating
the whole city before, during and after the actual date
of the fiesta. Alaminians can choose between concerts of
famous artists, beauty pageants and sports competitions

Halloween and Street Parties
Trick or treat season used to be just a school delight
or a barangay mini activity, a kind of get together for
neighbors to catch up on what they’ve missed about each
other. Now, it’s a city festivity. One can indulge in
spooky delights by wearing either a scary mask from the
movie ‘Scream” or a simply horrific mummy costume, join
street parades and dances filled with ecstatic ‘zombies’
and maybe sample a bit of every Halloween promo of some
establishments in the city, like discounts on ‘scream
fest movies’ from video rental shops or a special

Talaba Festival
The talaba (oyster) is one of the gems of seafood
cooking in many of the city’s households, especially
those near the sea. A festival is held in celebration of
its succulent taste that grace many dishes, casual and
exotic alike. People can be found cheering the
contestants in an oyster-shucking contest or licking
their lips at the floating aroma and creative
presentations of various delectable dishes entered in a
cooking showdown or maybe do more than just watching and
just tucking in to an oyster feast in one of the local
dining houses, which often give generous extras during
the celebration. Exhibits can’t be left out. Usually,
there’s also a beauty pageant and some performances of

Agri-Trade Fair
The annual Agri Trade fair, where the city is a regular
and active participant showcases the best of Alaminos
City’s products. Spectators can take second looks and
have a good helping of the exhibited delicacies that are
the finest in the city, like the irresistible Alaminos
longanisa, to-die-for grilled bangus belly, delectably
